How to Build a Chicken Coop at Home
December 19th, 2009
Read on to learn how to build a chicken coop. Let me begin by first talking about chicken coops in general. Chicken coops are used for the chickens as a safe place to live and for hens to lay some eggs. The chickens need a place for them to roam around and be free. You can either have the chickens enclosed in or they can be free range. If there are any predators nearby you may want to consider keeping it enclosed.

It depends on how many chickens you want on the size of your chicken coop. With about 8 chickens, it will be a medium sized chicken coop. It’s important to note these important features in your chicken coop. -Make sure to allocate about 4 and a half square feet of space per chicken. -There should be about 1 nest for every 2.5 chickens. -Each of your chickens needs a 10” perch length
It’s good to keep these notes handy when building your chicken coop. Be sure that the chicken keep has enough room to provide storage as well. Be sure that the door to the chicken coop opens inwards and is large enough. When it is cleaning time, the chicken coop needs to have easily accessible. You may want to consider putting a lock on it as well. The floor of the chicken coop should allow for shavings of up to 3 inches.
